Powerhouse Appointment a Good Move
22 Jul 2015
The Sydney Business Chamber has congratulated Professor Barney Glover on his appointment to the role as Chairman of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (Powerhouse Museum).
David Borger, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber said, “Soon the Powerhouse Museum will be housed in Parramatta, Professor Glover is an ideal choice for the role of Chairman as he understands the Western Sydney cultural landscape.
“This is the first time that a tier one cultural institution will be located in Western Sydney and it’s absolutely critical that the move to Parramatta is seamless, Professor Glover is the best custodian for the move.
“The Chamber has been a vocal advocate for the Powerhouse move as cultural investment contributes to the social and economic fabric of communities.
“In February 2015, the Chamber released study that analysed cultural spending in Western Sydney. It found that spending by government had not kept pace with population growth in Western Sydney.
“The Powerhouse move was recognition that Western Sydney needed to catch-up.
“The Chamber congratulates Professor Glover on his appointment and looks forward to working with him and his team as the Powerhouse plans its move to Western Sydney.
“The Powerhouse move is a good long term business and social investment for Western Sydney and the Chamber fully endorses the move along with Professor Glover’s appointment,” said Mr Borger.
